SENIOR CENTER STEP CHALLENGE

Three Categories: Ages 60-70, Ages 70-80, Ages 80 and Up The Person with the Most Steps in Each Category Wins a Prize
We are celebrating the 2024 Olympics with our own Senior Center 3 Week Step Challenge. Lace up your sneakers and start tracking those steps. Come pick up your daily tracking form at the Senior Center. You will be filling in your steps on the tracking form provided using the honor system. Tell us if you need a step counter to help you track your steps. Limited quantities are available at the Senior Center on a first come, first serve basis. Or you can use your watch or phone to track your steps. The person with the most steps for each age group at the end of the contest in August will win a prize.  Step Tracking forms will be available on 7/9/24 at the Senior Center for pick up.

HOME MODIFICATION LOAN PROGRAM

The Home Modification Loan Program is a state loan program that could help you or a loved one live more independently at home.  The loan program provides financing to homeowners an small landlords for accessibility renovations to keep a household member with a disability or older adult in their home and community.  Ashur Gurbuz, Residential Loan Fund Manager will ZOOM into the Senior Center to talk about this program and to answer your questions.
 
PAPER QUILLING - THE BASICS

A course for beginners or a refresher course for repeat students on the basics of paper quilling.  Learn and practice the basics of making shapes, use quilling tools and putting together a design.  There wll be a simple project for you to create in class.

Join us on World Senior Citizens Day for this inspiring presentation with William Kole former AP Editor and current editor for Axios.  Mr.KCole will be here to discuss Super Aging and his first book the Big 100.  Mr. Kole has been writing about extreme aging since the 1990's when he told the extraordinary story of Jeanne Calment who lived to 122.

Applefest Bake-off Contest
Date:  Thursday, September 19th - Entries must be dropped off between  8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

This Bake-Off is back including our special 18 and under category.  Get out your favorite recipes that have apples at the main ingredient and start baking.  Please bring your entry to the Senior Center by 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 19th.  Local community leaders will judge, and we'll award prizes to the three best entries.  Winners will be announced at the 11:30 a.m. luncheon.

Balance and Dizziness Workshop

Learn about your body's system of balance and the causes and treatments for dizziness and vertigo.  This presentation by Kevin Flaherty, PT, provides information about when to seek medical help for dizziness, the roll posture plays in dizziness, and teaches exercises you can use to manage dizziness and reduce your chances of falling.
