Scholarship Committee

The Town of Northborough voted to accept a local option to create a voluntary "check-off" fund on the tax bills to establish the Scholarship Fund in May 1988. This aligns with Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 60, Section 3C.

The Northborough Scholarship Committee was established by the Board of Selectmen in 2001. It is currently comprised of six volunteer voting members, who are appointed to three-year terms by the Board of Selectmen. A representative from the school district is also invited to participate in a non-voting role.

The goal is to recognize high school senior students, who reside in Northborough, and provide them with some financial assistance for their post-secondary education.

Consideration is given to the student's academic standing, financial need, employment and community service experiences, school/extracurricular activities, and essay.

The Scholarship Fund does not receive any money from the town budget; it relies solely on the generosity of the community. The number of scholarships and the amount awarded is decided annually by the Committee based on available funds.

In 2024, a total of $5,000 in scholarship funds was awarded.  Thank you to all who contributed to make these awards possible. The recipients were Sylvia Gaskamp (Algonquin Regional High School), JanetLou Guan (Algonquin Regional High School), Landen Jorgensen (Algonquin Regional High School), Ella Nofsinger (Algonquin Regional High School), Lindsay Ogar (Algonquin Regional High School) and Irene Shin (Algonquin Regional High School).
